He pressed his lips together and refused to let her go.
Xia Ling continued to push and hit him, her emotions getting more flustered by the minute. Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her abdomen. Yelping out in shock, she held her abdomen and doubled over in pain.
“Xiao Ling!” Pei Ziheng’s expression was filled with anxiety as he helped her to the small sofa by the side to sit down. He half-knelt and asked, “What happened? Are you feeling discomfort anywhere?”
Beads of cold sweat broke out on her forehead from the pain, and it took a while for the pain to subside.
The child… was the child okay? She worried about the child, while simultaneously worrying about the amulet that was thrown out of the window. Her voice trembled as she said through gritted teeth, “I want the amulet.”
“In this condition, you’re still pining for that broken piece of wood?!” Pei Ziheng said angrily. “Come, I’m bringing you to see the doctor!” He bent over and carried her from the sofa and headed down the stairs.
Xia Ling feebly struggled in his arms again. “Amulet…”
Her sickly pallor stopped Pei Ziheng from saying anything harsh to her. Regardless, he was going to make sure that nothing untoward came to the child she was carrying. Xia Ling’s hand held onto her abdomen protectively. She still wanted to find the amulet as a keepsake for herself, and to pass on to her child in the future. Pei Ziheng ignored them all and walked straight towards his Rolls-Royce, driving away from the forest.
Sweat broke out on her forehead as her abdomen started to hurt again in her anxiety.

Pei Ziheng barely held in his anger on hearing her question. He breathed in a deep breath, conscious that he had to be sure not to agitate Xia Ling. “It’s found.”
Xia Ling wanted to see it, so he took it out for her to see.
“Can I… can you return it to me?” She looked up at him and asked cautiously. “Otherwise, it will be hard for me to remain calm.”
She seemed to be testing his limits since she was carrying his child. Pei Ziheng felt as if his principles were increasingly disappearing in front of her. He was quiet for a moment before saying, “Okay.”
He handed the amulet to her.
Her expression was as if she had just received the most precious gift as she carefully hung the amulet around her neck.
